About the Two Mississippi Museums
The state donated $90 million for the incredible 200,000 square-foot complex. The two museums will provide electronic archives to many sites, showcase over 22,000 artifacts, and teach thousands of visitors through educational programs.
To honor our state’s bicentennial, the Museum of Mississippi History and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum will open in December 2017. Each of the institutions is operated by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. And, the two museums maintain the missions of teaching about the rich culture and intricate past of our Southern state.
The Collections
Each of these two Mississippi museums will display a collection of historic artifacts as well as personal stories from locals who have lived through the many milestones of our state. At the Mississippi Museum of History, you’ll discover displays that teach visitors about the Delta from its first establishment to the present day. When you tour the Civil Rights Museum, there are many displays capturing the progress in Mississippi. While you are in town, we encourage you to stop in and learn about the heritage of our Southern state.
