European explorers found this route was the best method of communication and traveled it frequently. President Roosevelt made this route an official parkway in the year 1938. Over the years, this road has been traversed by countless individuals, including famous individuals like Meriwether Lewis and Andrew Jackson, and experience all kinds of monumental events.
